Our Story & Purpose
The Carlos Otis Clinic was established in 1971 with a singular, vital mission: to provide trusted hometown care and world-class medicine right here on the mountain. Built to serve Stratton Mountain Resort guests, homeowners, and our surrounding communities, the clinic ensures that exceptional emergency medical and orthopedic care are never out of reach during the winter season.
We operate as an independent, non-profit organization. While we are widely known for our rapid, expert response to mountain injuries, we also provide a full range of scheduled primary care appointments to keep our neighbors healthy and thriving all season long.
Dedicated to Your Family for Generations
For over five decades, the Otis Clinic has been a foundational part of the Stratton family. We have served thousands of skiers, snowboarders, and local residents — treating broken bones, realigning dislocated shoulders, performing advanced life and trauma support, stitching lacerations, and treating illness. More than anything, we have been a reassuring presence, helping families whenever the need arises so you can enjoy your mountain home with complete peace of mind.
Our medical team brings premier, institutional expertise directly to our rural community. The clinic is anchored by a dedicated, full-time staff of professional nurses, paramedics, radiology technicians, and administrators, working side-by-side with an extraordinary, all-volunteer roster of Board-Certified physicians and surgeons who join us from the nation’s top healthcare and medical teaching institutions.

Anchored in Our History
Our roots run deep in the history of the mountain. The Carlos Otis Clinic was formed in 1971 thanks to the shared vision and immense generosity of the late E. Phillip Snyder, Jr., the brother of Stratton Mountain Resort’s founder Frank V. Snyder; and our founding Medical Director and local medical legend Dr. Carlos Otis of Townshend, Vermont.
Incorporated as a non-profit organization dedicated entirely to the well-being of the Stratton community, our facility was erected on land donated by the Stratton Corporation. Construction was funded through the community spirit of Phil Snyder, the Stratton Corporation, and a dedicated group of early homeowners and neighbors who recognized that a complete mountain home requires a world-class safety net. Today, that same spirit drives everything we do.
